THE Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Exact Tile
Dear Friends and Family,
Each year, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Man
and Women of the Year fundraising campaign. Our own employee: Shelby
Swihart, was honored to join this year’s efforts as the 2014 women of
the year candidate for Team Exact Tile Inc. We will have 10 weeks to
raise our goal of $20,000. The campaign kicked off on Thursday, March
13th and will be ending Thursday, May 22nd. Every dollar raised counts
as one vote. The candidate (man and women) at the end of the campaign
that receives the most votes will be considered Man and Women of the
Year in Knoxville. All proceeds will go directly to LLS, which will
then help fund research, financial assistance to patients, patient
services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community
Here at Exact Tile Inc., we cannot personally relate to being a
parent, sibling, friend, or co-worker of someone that has been diagnosed
with a blood cancer. With this being said, Shelby chose to be an
advocate during the campaign for two, amazing young children: Avery (6)
and Trevor (8).
Meet Avery Baker
Avery was diagnosed with ALL on April 1, 2013. ALL is a cancer of the blood actually known as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It affects the immune system and the blood cells. ALL is the most common type of cancer in children from 1 to 7 years old. Avery is 5 years old and attends Norris Elementary. Avery is a typical girl who enjoys gymnastics, ballet and tap. She lives with her older brother Aiden, and parents Chuck and Patti in Clinton. Avery has been a trooper throughout her journey and is a true hero.
Meet Trevor Quillen
Trevor was diagnosed in March 2013 with ALL. He is a very active 8-year old boy. Trevor attends New Center Elementary and says that math is his favorite subject. He enjoys the fun electronic games and gadgets that most kids have these days. Trevor has just started the maintenance phase of his chemotherapy and has faced this challenge head on. Trevor is a sweet boy, who hasn’t complained once and is truly a warrior. He is extremely excited to be the 2014 Boy of the Year.
